Hard Rockin’ Men Are Hot!

The attractive Nick Hipa from As I Lay Dying

…but hard rockin’ women are not?! At least that’s the way things are according to one study that appeared in the journal, Psychology of Music. The study states “Fascination with heavy metal rock greatly enhanced the appeal of men, but it proved detrimental to that of women.” (Fortunately, a similar study concluded that country music made everyone less attractive)

Given the decades long concept of groupies, this doesn’t really surprise me. We’ve all heard crazy stories of parties with an endless supply of drugs and an endless line of women from bands such as Van Halen, Motley Crue and Def Leppard. I’ve never heard stories like this from bands with prominent females such as Lacuna Coil or Kittie. (What happened between Cherie Currie and Joan Jett in the Runaways doesn’t really count) Maybe I’m just naive but I don’t think there are as many male groupies as there are female ones.

At the same time, I must point out that there has to be SOME attraction to hard rockin’ women or else why would Revolver have a yearly issue dedicated to “The Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock”? Of course, not everyone views these girls as attractive. (I use the word girl because this year’s covergirl was Taylor Momsen is only 17). One writer for Decibel Magazine was very unhappy with the choices saying that the editors of Revolver “have again decided to beg you to jerk off on their magazine.” Regardless of this sentiment, the yearly issue is still subject to the old marketing phrase “Sex sells!”

Taylor Momsen as "The Hottest Chick in Hard Rock"

My conclusion is women in hard rock are just as attractive as men in hard rock. Do you think one sex is more attractive than the other in relation to this music genre? I would love to hear what you think on the matter so post your opinion in the comments section!
