Another Way For Dio to Remain Immortal

Last week metal magazine Revolver announced that the Lifetime Achievement Award annually presented at the Golden Gods would be renamed in memory of the late, great Ronnie James Dio. At last year’s ceremony, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead won the Lifetime Achievement Award and Dio won the Best Vocalist Award. This year, Motley Crue will be receiving the first Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award.

I think this is a great way to honor one of metal’s greatest singers. Sure, there’s hardly any metal fan who doesn’t at least know of him and hopefully they will introduce their children to his music, but it certainly can’t hurt preserving his memory. Younger generations will not have the same chance to see him perform live. The Golden Gods however, is becoming the awards show for heavy metal fans to watch. So even if kids don’t learn about Dio from their relatives, they will from this show. They’ll figure “If there’s a lifetime achievement award named after this guy, he must be pretty damn important.”

Be sure to cast your votes for this year’s Golden Gods Awards and tune in on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 on the VH1 Classic channel!
